Micheline Calmy-Rey is a former President of the Swiss Confederation and Minister of Foreign Affairs. Mrs Calmy-Rey has occupied key positions at several international and national organizations such as at the International Crisis Group, the Social-Democratic Party of Geneva and the Swiss National Bank. As from April 2012 she is visiting professor at the University of Geneva and President of the Martin Ennals Foundation. She is married with two children. |

Hans Thoolen, Secretary of the Board. (Co-)founder of several NGOs including the Dutch Lawyers Committee for Human Rights (NJCM, 1974), HURIDOCS, International Alert, True Heroes and the MEA itself. Former Executive Secretary of the International Commission of Jurists, first Director of the Netherlands Institute of Human Rights, served 15 years in the UN, mostly with the High Commissioner for Refugees. From 1993 Simia Ahmadi worked at the UN Center for Human Rights, and a few years later at the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH). Thereafter she was Programme Coordinator of the Legal and Human Rights Centre in Tanzania. From 2006-2009 she served as FIDH’s Representative to the UN in Geneva, and finally as the Chief of Party of Public International Law and Policy Group in Kenya. |

A British/Belgian national, John Horekens has spent 40 years in humanitarian and development work with the United Nations and the International Red Cross. In the past 20 years, he was UNHCR’s Representative in Sudan, UNHCR’s Director for Europe, Coordinator for the CIS, Director for Operational Support, and Director of External Relations, before being IFRC’s Director of External Relations and UN’s Coordinator for the World Conference on Disaster Reduction, as well as for the 3rd Early Warning Conference. John now runs an independent consulting firm. |

Sharon Rusu is currently a Senior Advisor with the UNISDR. Her research and publications focus on conflict early warning, global communications and country of origin information systems. She has previously served with the Government of Canada, the UNHCR and UNOCHA. |

Arnold Tsunga is the director for Africa of the International Commission of Jurists. After working as a lawyer for 14 years, he joined Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights as founding director. He also worked as the acting Executive Secretary of the Law Society of Zimbabwe. He sat on the boards of civil society groups in Zimbabwe, and currently on the boards of international human rights groups. He has suffered persecution as a human rights defender and has received a number of awards, notably the Martin Ennals Award in 2006. |

Michel Veuthey. Vice-President of the International Institute of Humanitarian Law (San Remo, Italy), Professeur associé, Institut du Droit de la Paix et du Développement, Nice University, France, Chair of the Centre Henry Dunant and the Cercle des Amitiés Internationales (Geneva). Worked for the ICRC (1967- 2000), member of the Board MSF-Switzerland (2000- 2004). Has published a book and many articles on international humanitarian law and cooperation. |

Mari Sandström, a Swedish national, has held various positions in the United Nations since 1989, mainly at the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, and in the Inter-Parliamentary Union. These positions have included resource mobilization with governments and private sector, spokesperson functions, production of major publications and management of public awareness campaigns. She joined the UN from a background in journalism in Sweden and other Nordic countries. Mari Sandström is now working as an international consultant. |
| Andrew Andrea is Associate Director at the World Economic Forum building a strategic approach to collaboration with academics and the world’s leading Universities for interaction with global leaders. He was formerly Acting Head of Global Governance and Head of Public Sector Engagement. He has 20 years of experience in humanitarian activities in the non-profit sector and United Nations agencies where his responsibilities have included, fundraising, information and knowledge management, branding, media relations, crisis communications and specific project campaigns. From 2000 – 2012 he was Director of Communications at the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue, the world’s largest armed conflict mediation organisation. Between 1998 and 2000 he helped develop the Health Intelligence Network for Advanced Contingency Planning at the World Health Organisation, and between 1995-1998 designed and launched the world’s most comprehensive information system for the coordinated response to emergencies and disasters within the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). He also worked on communications for ActionAid and on lobbying strategies for a UK based parliamentary consultancy. Andrew is cofounder and moderator of the Geneva Web Group and Manager of the Global Agenda Council on Catastrophic Risks. He is also a Certified Professional Facilitator with the International Association of Facilitators. |
| Michael Khambatta is the Director of the Martin Ennals Foundation. He spent over ten years with the International Committee of the Red Cross working on a range of humanitarian issues including management, protection, public communication, and engagement with the authorities. Now returning to Geneva, he has also worked in the United States, Bosnia-Herzegovina, DR Congo, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Rwanda. |
